A Space for Learning

This inspirational project is the Irish Architecture Foundation’s inaugural education programme. Almost 100 architects/architecture graduates worked with transition year students in a competition to look at design for their very own educational spaces. Ten teams have been selected to develop their designs into an exhibition that will open in NCAD, Dublin in November, and I’m delivering a PR campaign to maximise the programme’s profile nationwide in 2010.

Venice Architecture Biennale 2010

Commissioned by the Irish Architecture Foundation under the directorship of Nathalie Weadick. ‘of de Blacam and Meagher’ will represent Ireland at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice during Autumn 2010. Curated by Tom dePaor, Peter Maybury, Alice Casey and Cian Deegan, Ireland’s participation at Venice is an initiative of Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland. I’m devising and delivering its PR campaign.

Open House Dublin 2010

The fifth annual Open House Dublin, presented by the Irish Architecture Foundation, takes place from 7–10 October with the exciting theme of BIG, SMALL, GLOBAL. Over one weekend, Dublin buildings of all types and periods will open up their doors to allow citizens explore the architecture of their city, completely for free! I’m working with the wonderful IAF team to deliver marketing and PR for this year’s programme.

Annette's all-round communications ability allowed us to bring our education strategy to new levels and broaden both our programme and the audiences that we reach. Through her work with us, we doubled the number of events and audiences that come through our Learn + Explore programme in a very short 12-month period. Her inspiring creativity brought a new dimension to this area for The National Concert Hall and built a very sound platform for us to build for the future.

  • Rosita Wolfe • Head of Marketing and Communications, National Concert Hall
  • Annette is effective, exacting and efficient: and importantly, she is a pleasure to work with. Quite simply, she delivers.

  • Janice McAdam • Head of Marketing, the Abbey Theatre
  • Under Annette’s guiding influence the festival’s marketing and pr became sharper and more focused. She has also advised Junction Festival on development issues and her influence in this area saw a growth in the funds raised and a further improvement in relationships with sponsors and funding agencies.

  • David Teevan • Director, Clonmel Junction Festival
  • Annette Nugent has worked as a communications consultant for The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children 2005-2008 and again in 2010. During that time she has overseen a number of special projects for the organisation including Save the Robots, The Ark of Noise and Toys, as well as advising us on strategic organisational communication.

What makes Annette so fantastic to work with her is the way she combines a senior expertise in marketing (particularly in the arts) with a strong strategic thinking skill-set. She has the breadth of experience and insight to see the ‘whole picture’, and to devise clever, cost effective marketing strategies that help communicate the whole organisation’s message better. A pragmatist, she applies her bright mind to the real world of budgets and comes up with creative and impactful marketing solutions. She also has super interpersonal skills, is loyal and reliable, and is well regarded by the entire team.

I value Annette’s input and advice at key times. I like her, I trust her, and I listen to her.

  • Eina McHugh • Director, The Ark A Cultural Centre for Children
  • Working with Annette Nugent has been one of the most rewarding and productive elements of my tenure at Dublin Dance Festival. She is extremely organised and systematic but isn't constrained by a timeline. She has a comprehensive breadth of experience in all aspects of marketing in Ireland yet does not impose her opinions. She is open to dialogue and discussion and is willing to take risks if you can argue coherently for a particular approach. Her primary goal is to achieve her client's objectives, not her own.
